Beggar couple murder, Gujarat police foxed

A double murder of a mendicant and his wife late Monday night in a Gujarat village has left police clueless about the motive behind the crime.

Amargar Bawaji, 55, and his wife Leelaben, 50, were sleeping in their house at Gangadi village in Kalyanpur sub-district, 140 km from here and 315 km from Ahmedabad, when some assailants entered their home and clobbered them to death.

Their heads were smashed violently, Kalyanpur police sub-inspector V.A. Gadhvi told IANS, adding that a wooden pestle could have been used as the murder weapon.

Amargar belonged to the Bawaji community, a mendicant caste, and he barely made a living by begging, Gadhvi said adding that the killers had not stolen any item from the house.

Further investigations were on.
