Taxi fares in Kolkata will go up by Rs.2 from July 1 following the price hike in petroleum products, said Transport Minister Subhas Chakrabarty here Monday.
'After a meeting with members of the Bengal Taxi Association and Calcutta Taxi Association, we have decided to increase taxi fares by Rs.2 from July 1. Passengers will have to pay Rs.2 extra on the total fare,' Chakrabarty told reporters at the state secretariat here.
Bengal Taxi Association's general secretary Bimal Guha said the taxi unions have decided to withdraw the indefinite taxi strike called from June 25 since their demand for hike in fares has been met by the state government.
