The younger generation of the Gujarati diaspora in the US will have an opportunity to revive their roots with a global conference that will also have trade and business events.
'The World Gujarati Conference at Raritan Centre in New Jersey Aug 29-31 is to introduce Gujarati values to the younger generation born and brought up in the US,' said Sunil Nayak, president of the Association of Indian Americans in North America (AIANA), which is organising the meet.
The second World Gujarati Conference, 'Chaalo Gujarat', is an attempt by AAINA to bring Gujaratis from all walks of life and from all parts of the world under one roof to share their experiences and values, he told mediapersons here Saturday.
The biannual event was launched in September 2006, bringing together a large number of Gujaratis from around the world. 'It was for the first time that leaders from various fields came together for a single cause: Uniting the Spirit of Gujarat,' Nayak said.
'This year too, a galaxy of leaders, musicians, poets, litterateurs, business leaders, academicians and sportspersons will share the stage in a spirit of solidarity.'
Several prominent Gujaratis have been invited to share their experience. The invitees include Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, businessmen Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, technocrat Sam Pitroda, businessmen Karsanbhai Patel, Sudhir Mehta, Pankaj Patel, Gautam Adani, Jay Mehta, Tulsi Tanti, Deepak Parekh, Uday Kotak, economists Jagdish Bhagwati, Bakul Dholakia, singer Pankaj Udhas, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, actor Paresh Rawal, music composer Himesh Reshammiya, singers Falguni Pathak, Alka Yagnik, Aishwarya Majumdar and cricketer Irfan Pathan.
Many religious leaders too are likely to be present.
There will be fashion shows, laser show, multi-screen film, legends-of-Gujarat gallery, traditional dance, comedy show, food festival, ras garba competition, skit, play and much more.
A trade show cum exhibition too has been organized to showcase companies, product and alliances.
The Gujarat Institute of Housing and Estate Developers will put up an international property show in real estate and infrastructure development that would present non-resident Gujarati (NRG) investors, especially for those in North America, opportunities in both retail and institutional segment, said GIHED president Shekhar Patel.
The objective is to give a chance to builders and developers to showcase their upcoming commercial and residential projects for NRGs who could compare the best buy in property, Patel said.
