S.S. Kapoor, a 1974 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, is the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kapoor's elevation to the top administrative assignment was approved here Monday by the state cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The top slot had fallen vacant after the voluntary retirement of B.R. Kundal who joined the state cabinet last week.
The cabinet also ordered promotions of four senior Deputy Inspectors General of police (DIGs) to the rank of Inspectors General of Police (IGPs). The officers are P. Srinivas, Muhammad Amin Anjum, Ravinder Kotwal and Farooq Ahmad.
Srinivas has been posted as IGP (operations) for north Kashmir, Anjum as IGP (railway security), Kotwal as IGP (police telecommunications and forensics sciences) and Ahmad as IGP (police housing corporation).
S.S. Salaria has been posted as deputy inspector general of police (administration) at the police headquarters and Pankaj Saxena as deputy inspector general of police (CID, Jammu) after their transfers from their present postings.
